Emerging in Ludlow

House collapse

This house collapsed earlier in the week, as a result of the flooding. Its impossible to get near it so this was the best I could do. The couple who lived there were out well in time and no one was hurt. The house was for sale. Someone caught the event on a mobile.

We have had more rain today, but not as heavy as was forecast.

Flood

We have been experiencing the worst weather in June for years. I am currently in Edinburgh, but Anna-Lee our au pair has not been able to get back to the house today after dropping the kids off at school this morning! I think the house is ok, but the Dogditch Brook has burst it's banks and flooded 20 metres of road. There is more rain expected. In fact another 30mm over the next 24 hrs! Anna Lee and the kids are all at a friends in town, warm and dry. I will post photos if I can.

Updated: Photos - I feel sad for the people in Sheffield and South Yorkshire who have had a terrible time.

Becoming

The land

I have been thinking about work recently. For several reasons, but not least because I have to find a new job either within the organisation I work for or elsewhere. It appalls me and fascinates me that we take so much of our sense of well-being, achievement and identity from our work. On the one hand I want that to come from my relationship with God, on the other, in practice, it doesn't.

This leads on to a discussion I was having with a friend last week about the relationship between us, God and 'the land'. It's a three-way thing. We have a relationship with God and the land, and God has a relationship with us and the land. When one of these relationships is out of kilter, so is the other. So in the fall, the land was cursed and Adam made to work it. We see reflected in creation 'the land' the glory and beauty of the creator. We are made for 'the land' and the land for us. From a Biblical perspective we are connected. As work has moved away from the land and into offices and buildings, we have lost some of our understanding in this area. I aim to explore.
